Southern Elegance Alpacas

After six months in the home of our dreams, surrounded by the rolling horse pastures of Paris, Kentucky, it was time for some animals. We had not left the crowded suburbs for nothing; we wanted to return to a more natural and healthy lifestyle. Already being avid knitters and crocheters, raising fiber animals came to mind.

Our first bout of research went into sheep and angora rabbits, but our thoughts kept returning to an animal we’d encountered during our five years in Chile, South America: Alpacas. We still had the alpaca shawls we’d gotten from street vendors there, which had withstood years of being our all day every day Winter shawls, (and I am tempted to think will last generations). But were alpacas raised in the U.S.? We were surprised and excited to learn about the thriving alpaca industry here. After meeting our first alpacas at the Kentucky Sheep and Fiber Festival, we were hooked and soon had thirty animals of our own.

It has certainly been life-changing, but we are loving every minute of it, in spite of the occasional spitballs. We love seeing the calm, elegance, and contentment of our alpacas, and are so excited about all we can do with their luxurious fiber. With a great variety of rich colors, we can make things exactly as we have always wanted to, the natural way, with no chemical dyes or other artificial ingredients.

Come join us as we make these animals and their fiber a part of our lives and yours!
